Taking an ambitious data business from start-up to acquisition

We helped take an ambitious data business from start-up to acquisition - putting in place a ‘value inflection point’ process to successfully deliver their growth strategy.

Challenge

The company had built two successful revenue streams in SaaS and consulting services but needed to improve value before seeking a significant financial event. Organic growth was beginning to slow, and the leadership team were seeking outside counsel on how to accelerate the expansion of their business.

Solution

We defined and delivered a value inflection point process that focused on the value levers which had the greatest impact on the enterprise value of the business. This helped to eliminate non-value adding activity and enhanced the core proposition.

Our management then supported the transaction process leading to an acquisition by a leading global technology firm.

Our approach centred around implementing value inflection points - a data driven approach to leading and managing a step change in business performance. Ensuring all business functions were maturing in-step helped to drive an increase in enterprise value and ultimately, a successful transaction for all parties.

Results

  1. A set of immediate remedial actions provided the leadership team the right focus ahead of an interim fundraising round

  2. This highlighted some gaps that would need to be remedied in the medium to long term

  3. The founders engaged us to support their business strategy definition which would go on to form the basis of an Information Memorandum
